Leadership and Self-Deception

The Arbinger Institute

This book is about self-deception, the most common and damaging problem in any organizations.

Chapter 1 explains self-deception, or “being in the box”. Imagine an infant learning how to crawl. She starts to move backward. After a while she is stuck something. Since she can’t see the root causes keeping her stuck, she push herself harder to backward only making situation worse. Self-deception blinds us to the true causes. No solution works well without seeing any causes.

Chapter 2 describes how to get in the box. Self-betrayal makes you getting in the box. It is typically an act contrary to what I feel I should do for another such as staying in the bed in spite of listening to baby wail.

Chapter 3 tells how to get out of the box. It’s all about focus, focusing on others to achieving results.

It is hard to see whether you are in the box or not by yourself. Find out the box by reading this book.
