The Advantage

Patrick Lencioni

This book is about organizational health that includes four disciplines as follows,
1. Build a cohesive leadership team: Having conflict is natural for healthy organization however, too much conflict is destructive. There will be ideal conflict point between artificial harmony and personal attack like conflict.
2. Create clarity: Is a company considered to have clarity if it has mission statements? The answer is most likely no. The example of mission statement was shown on page 76 with blank company name. it looks real, it looks familiar making you think mission statement of your company probably looks like this. The point is, this mission statement can be applied to almost every company implying not having clarity. Guess whose mission statement is this? It is the mission statement of Dunder Mifflin from The Office.
3. Overcommunicate clarity: it takes seven times to make employees believe what leaders are communicating. Although it could be five or more than seven, repetition and reinforcement are important.
4. Reinforce clarity: It’s all about maintenance, you need hiring for fit, recognition and firing.
You could check health of your organization with checklists at the end of this book to find out an inconvenient truth.
